Challenge
CMAG (Canberra Museum and Gallery) serves a unique role as a place to experience the diverse history and contemporary culture of the Canberra region.
As well as providing exhibition graphics and signage for CMAG’s annual program and permanent Sidney Nolan collection, The Modern Creative were engaged to design and construct external building signage showcasing a recent rebrand and bring higher external visibility to the heritage listed building in the heart of Canberra’s CBD.
Approach
After surveying the building from various vantage points and approaches, we set to work providing detailed mock-ups and shop drawings of our signage solution. Our approach took into account careful consideration of the buildings heritage status by using minimal fixings into the structures’ exterior that were not only robust but could be easily restored if the signage were ever to be removed.
Our light-weight aluminium framing was fabricated off-site and then constructed in place before dressing with composite panelling and vinyl graphics to complete the branding.
Results
The resulting solution brings a strong, high impact visual presence on approach to the building from all sides. The buildings location can be easily identified at a distance and the signage seamlessly integrates with the unique spaces the building offers.
On completion, we delivered and continue to deliver:
